I use 1 drop of lavendar and 1 of teatree oil. I rub them together in my palms and then rub the scent all over myself from feet to my hair.

I have never been bitten since doing that - I was very prone to bites before.

    And it smells good :)

    Hope that helps someone :)

I use the Avon stuff too and despite usually being quite sensitive to products I've never had a bad reaction either. I live in Scotland too so it's more midges than mozzies I've used it for. I've always bought the greeny blue one though and hate the smell - does the pink one work equally well?

Not sure about the pink one working as I have also only used the blue one. It used to be called something like 'woodland fern'? and I was told it had citronella in it which the bugs don't like. I've never been brave enough to try the other fragrance in case I got bitten.

    Hello nesssie1702

Avon Dry Oil Body Spray (product code 25742) in Soft & Fresh fragrance is £5 per 150ml bottle. If you get hold of an Avon catalogue, they might be on offer 'any 3 for £6'.;)

The Avon website address is www.avon.uk.com

    Hi

My OH and I have a horse, and at this time of year the horseflies bother them something rotten. Rather than spend six or seven quid (honest!) on a bottle of proprietary insect repellant (it comes in a spray bottle like kitchen cleaners etc) we made our own. Principal ingredients are citronella oil (from an aromatherapists) and cold tea. I tested it on my own head one evening after being harassed by midges. Everyone else was being bitten to death but I was left well alone afterwards! Of course, I now use it exclusively on my person as well as George the hoss. Exercise caution - citronella can be an irritant, so keep it nice and dilute (start weak and work your way up) and test on a small patch of skin first before dousing yourself in it! Cold tea seems nice on your skin too (though I am a bloke, and a bit of a farmer, so I don't think Laboratoire Garnier will be too worried right now...).
    Skip dipper and proud....
