Valuation fee refunded but no word?

Hi there,
I applied for a mortgage with Nationwide last week and all seemed to be going well. I received a text message & email telling me that they'd started on Thursday. They then took the arrangement fee + valuation costs out of my bank account on Friday morning.

On Monday morning I noticed that they had refunded the £285 valuation fee. I have heard no word from them and I can't seem to get hold of anyone to confirm either way.

Does anyone know why they'd just refund it? I can't see evidence of a credit check taking place, nor have I heard anything. Anyone seen this kind of thing before?

What do you mean that you cant seem to get hold of them?

Is noone picking up the phone at the mortgage call centre?
  • I'm afraid this happened to me too :( Unfortunately for me, it meant that they had declined the mortgage application, but happily accepted the application fee.

I tried to find out what the reasons were behind it, but apparently if Head Office don't want to lend for whatever reason then they are 'unanswerable'.

Like you, they didn't let me know what was happening, just refunded the money.

I ended up going with Leeds Building Society, who have been great, so it's not the end of the world!
