I'm not deaf, but do have tinnitus. I am afraid the choices I have found are lump it or distract with noise. I like sleep meditation apps ( either sounds or guided 'meditations' or 'self hypnosis' and my husband has learned to deal with these, infact, he wants them on sometimes when I don't. Obviously if you cannot where hearing aids at night this is no use.

Hiya,
I do feel for you, my only thing I can say is that if it does remain you all get more used to it and it will just be the norm. I've had it on and of since childhood, and only occasionally now it bugs me. I have a condition called misophonia too which seems to correlate with tinnitus where I get incredibly ratty when I hear certain missed and pitches, luckily the noses in my ears don't affect that.
Good luck with the ent department. Although you have heading difficulties, what others have suggested with waves etc may help.

There was a thing on radio four about 'us' today.
I use 'noise' to help that too.0 -

OH MY GOD!!! We're few and far Between, so it's great you posted too! But sorry for your awful hell with trigger sounds and stuff. Would be great to chat privately about it :-)
Interesting you use noise for it, as a kid I listened to my music on my headphones to block everything out, I don't do that any more, but do wear ear plugs a lot :-( hope you pm me! Xxx0 -

I've pm'd you.
I think there are more of use than even realise they have it. We should start a thread, there should be at least a few on Mse I would have thought.
Tbh, I cope ok. Its a frustration, but not the worst I have in life and I have coping strategies that are instinctive to me and those I live with, so its as much of an issue as I let it be IYSWIM.
Anyway, doesn't help op with her tinnitus !0 -

Whilst tinnitus is not curable, it is usually a symptom of other conditions within the body. Most commonly, it is associated with mild, moderate, or severe hearing loss. All audiologists are required to refer clients, who present with the following forms of tinnitus, for medical advice, if the client has not previously consulted a qualified medical practitioner
(1) One-sided tinnitus
(2) Pulsing (heartbeat rhythm) tinnitus
Since your description fits (2) above, please please see your GP without delay, unless you have had the condition investigated by a specialist in the past.0 -
Thanks Hear-Hear (very appropriate name for this thread!)
I've been to docs and all he could do is prescribe 'Cinnarizine' tablets which are more for Menieres disease, which I've had many times and I know it's not like that at all. I'm taking them as asked but the side affects are feeling sleepy, so advised not to drive, operate machinery or drink alcohol. The tiredness is the only problem and it's not too bad, fortunately.
It is still very annoying but I am able to cope with it a little better and am sleeping at night, albeit, the tablets are most probably helping me!
So roll on the ENT appointment - only 1 month to go!0
