Washing clothes in a dishwasher

No, haven't lost my marbles but I was just wondering whether it would be possible to do a batch of laundry in a dishwasher in an emergency if your washing machine packed up.
Has anybody ever tried it, and if it works, how would you most effectively go about doing it?

Um, if my washing machine packed up I'd wash clothes by hand. They wouldn't get spun in a dishwasher.Grateful to finally be debt free!0

Well in my dishwasher the dishes stay put so the clothes would stay put and not tumble around and also the heat in my dishwasher is greater than the temp I wash my clothes at. I'd def never do it - wash items by hand in the bath or ask friend or family for a favour and use theirs.0

By hand, laundrette or at a friend's. Dishwasher - the clue is in the name! :j0

I put dish cloths in the DW if I am not doing a WM wash that day. They hold the detergent, don't rinse and don't drain which, for a dish cloth is fine, for my knickers, it is NOT!!!0

I put my best crockery in the washing machine the other day...what a racket and what a mess when it had finished spinning.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

This is a question I've never wondered about until I saw the thread title and was suddenly desperate to know the answer to (for no good reason whatsoever!).
Thanks OP.0 -
Definite no. I put dish sponge/cloth in dishwasher, just to freshen it up between doing a proper wash, but it does come out absolutely full of water, and you have to give it a good wring out.0
