Page boy!?

Options
Hi Everyone,

Ok, i've messed up. I got carried away and asked my two littlest cousins (girl 11, boy 10) to be bridesmaid and page boy. I don't see a lot of them both, but my girl cousin was so excited about my dress etc I just asked her there and then to be bridesmaid and then asked her brother to be page boy. Now, my OH isn't overly impressed by this as the kids family can be very disinterested in me, but I see this as not the kids fault! However, i've looked into hiring a page boy suit and in the same style as the rest of the groomsmen and groom it's going to be £69. Were only paying £79 for the groom! I checked with the company about hiring just the waistcoat and ruche and they said it works out more expensive than hiring the whole thing as the "whole kit" is a special deal. hmmm.

Anyone got any experience of having a page boy? What did they do!? What did they wear, the same as the other suited people so to speak!?

Thanks for your help!

Just get him trousers, white shirt and tie/waistcoat in your wedding colours - buying a suit would be cheaper.

All I can say is I was caught out in a similar fashion too!!!

We ended up paying for the hire only for the 7 year old pageboy to look up the day before the wedding and say he didnt actually want to wear the suit and would be much happier in a pair of trousers and shirt...in fact he suddenly declared that he was "resigning" in order to just hand out the order of services!!!!!

So my advice to you would be to definately check with him what he wants to do before you comit to anything...in my experience actually while you're regretting asking he's probably regretting saying yes!

Otherwise have a look in BHS they do a range of suits for children and also just waistcoats which may match in with your colours...the other thing I would say is if he's 10 then hold off as long as possible before you buy anything...at that age some boys really go through a growth spurt and things dont fit from one month to the next!

Matalan also have shirt and waistcoat sets, or shirt and tie sets. Just bought a shirt and tie set for my nearly 4 year old son for my cousins wedding on Saturday, normally £10, reduced to £4.50. But we're only guests, he's not a page boy or anything.

He'll be wearing his school trousers with them :D

But as others have said, hold off and double check. Perhaps go through their responsibilities with them, this may errr put them off if you know what I mean. Might not mind you... :/

    Good luck

Blimey, that price is ridiculous! We had a page boy and got his suit from Matalan. In the end he didn't even wear the suit jacket, as it was so hot, so just had his school trousers which luckily matched, a white shirt and ivory swirl waistcoat from Matalan and then bought a smaller cravat in matching colour on eBay :) cost less than a tenner!

  • I'm having my 5 year old nephew and have to admit we are paying £69 to hire tails for him. We wanted him to look the same and we were willing to pay that.

It's really personal opinion if you don't want to pay that then maybe buyingaduffeent suites a good idea. We shopped around and your not going to find kids suits much cheaper than the adults. Kids are also more likely to damage suits.

Thank you for the replies and ideas everyone. After speaking to my Mum and OH they boy suggested black suit bought from Asda/Matalan etc, plain white shirt and a cravat/tie in the same fabric and colour as the bridesmaids dresses/groomsmen cravats. That way he will still look similar but he is doing to look different as he is page boy not groom/usher etc! I am going to check with him that he still wants to do it though, don't want any pressure on him and he can be bit of a paddy thrower when he changes his mind on something!

My page boy wore a Charcoal trousers, charcoal waistcoat, white shirt and a cravat the same colour as the rest of them.

    We got it in M&S

Went for the waistcoat as felt it was more weddinging than the jacket - originally wanted an ivory one but couldn't get it!

Oooh I never thought about that. I like that idea. The only thing is it could be cold as it's winter!
