How do you preserve your DELL XPS 17 battery?

How should u charge a laptop battery to prevent it from getting spoilt sooner? Should i completely charge it and let it run on DELL XPS 17 battery ,prolaptopbatteryshop.com let the charger be plugged in all the time, or take the battery out and let it run only on the charger?

my HP will switch to direct power supply once the battery is full. my lappy is about 12 months old. in other words you should be fine to forget about the whole problem unless it's an older model, then you'll have to get more specifics.
