Mortgage Question

I'm currently looking to renew my RBS mortgage but wish to borrow an additional £4000 for home improvements, my question is does my wife have to be on the mortgage as she's on the deeds as RBS told me that's law?

The reason for my question is she has her own mortgage so I don't want her income to be counted against this mortgage, I think I can easily renew the mortgage deal on line but as I want the additional borrowing they want my wife's details.

Its not the law, but lenders do want whoever is on the deeds to be on the mortgage. The reason being is that if you stop paying they couldnt evict the other person as theyre not part of the mortgage.
