Can i change my mortgage abroad ???

i saw an article about how many people moved abroad (second homes) and took local mortgages and then because the liked them so much were able to transfer their own mortgage to that as well ???
I cant afford a second home lol but my french partner and i are maybe interested in seeing if transferring it to france could save us money any help or advice greatly appreciated, so websites or experience in these matters would be superb
