Bare Minerals Ready Foundation

Does anyone use this and rate it as being OK? Bare Minerals has now come to our Boots and I had some tested on me the other week, I told the assistant I have dry skin and she assured me it wouldn't look powdery like most powders do on me but when she had put it on it still looked cakey! I thought it might be better for not sliding off my face when I am hot but it just made me look flaky and dry. Pity as I thought it might be good.

I use this and love it!! Did they swirl, tap, buff? as that is the technique. They advise to use about the amount of sprinkles you put on a Cappacino (spelt wrong, lol), and use their brushes as they are designed for the swirl (to pick up the minerals), tap (on the lid to remove any excess), and buff on to your skin (it warms to your skin ad you build it up by repeating the steps). If you look on QVC there may be a video showing it (I get mine from there as there is often offers on, plus you have the 30 day money back guarantee, minus the postage, even if you have used it!). It did take me a bit to get the hang of the swirl tap buff, but now that's all I wear through summer and winter (different shades). :)
  • I'd be interested in this too as my make up slides off my face in hot weather.

Hi thanks for your reply. Is yours the compact version? It was the compact version I had tested on me which will be good as less messy than powder, she did do the tap and buff thing but it still looked cakey, maybe she put too much on? I am over 50 though and am wary of powders making me look wrinkly. However, liquid foundation is sliding off my face in this heat and with the menopause.

I am finding that the powders are looking cakey too. I can't use Bare Minerals because it gives me spots. I have acne and my skin is quite 'slippy' in this weather too.

I was using Elemental Beauty mineral foundation but have just gone back to my no.7 instant radiance foundation but using a primer too. This seems to help keep my make up on. If you're unsure about the 'cakeyness', then it might be worth using your liquid foundation but researching tips to keep it on!

You're not alone. The original powder version is fantastic but the new compact version isn't getting such rave reviews. Check out what Wayne Goss has to say about it.

Avon do a good mineral powder. its 10 quid in the normal brochure, but often yu can get it a lot cheaper on offer.

I have some red marks on one cheek, I use a stick concealer on them, then the mineral powder which stays put all day. I once got it on offer at 3 for £10. or 1 for £4 worth a try for so little money.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I haven't tried Bare Minerals but I have in the past (and still do sometimes) used L'Oreal's True Match minerals which gives good coverage and stays put whatever the weather. It only comes off if I get really sweaty but that's true for any make up. At the moment I'm using Avon's Ideal Flawless BB cream (with a concealer if needed), I put a blob on the back of my hand and dabbing it with a big brush swirl it on, finishing with some loose powder to combat shine. It's been a lifesaver in this hot weather and much nicer/lighter to wear than normal foundation, I can highly recommend it.

Don't use it myself, but have read on quite a few beauty boards that women over 40 having trouble with it. They used it for years loved it. Then one day caught sight of themselves and suddenly realized it looked cakey and settled into any lines and wrinkles they had. They all moved back to liquid foundation.

Oh and please do not go near Estee Lauder Double Wear, it is not for people with dry skin.

How about using a tinted moisturiser???

I'm 57 but my skin is reasonably good. Bare Escentuals does nothing for me - seems to find the tiniest of pores and highlights them. It makes my nose look like a strawberry - full of little tiny seeds !

I'm still in search of the perfect foundation !
  • I'd go with a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream, but then again I rarely wear much makeup - flick of mascara and Benetint at max day-to-day :)
