We're often asked . . . sometimes asked . . . somebody asked me once - why don't you write a song about flying? It's not a bad idea, really. Swan and I have had to do quite a lot of flying lately - by air - and I must say it's rather marvelous when you think of it, isn't it, that, you know, if you want to go to New York, say, instead of lying about for days on end, like in a sort of floating Selfridges, doing nothing, eating far too much, all you have to do is just jump on a plane, seventeen miles outside London at two o' clock in the morning. You'll be . . . you can be in New York too late for breakfast and just in time to go to bed at noon. Doesn't take your physical body more than about a week to catch up with this....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Am now off to sort out piles of laundry with F&S on my ipod.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Now we are wondering what to do with old boiler. We've talked about putting it in the barn (its like Mary popping handbag our barn) but it just seems so frustrating. I'd like it gone.
We're offering it a final time to the idiots who sold it to us, as they hold it has worth you'd think they would want it.
The metal value must be something, as its heavy, but getting it there would probably cost every thing its worth.

My mum, however would switch between it and received pronunciation in the blink of an eye. Her slightly older brother has always spoken with a scottish accent but her younger sister is like me, she couldn't if she tried.
When she was ill and in hospital for a long time, the hospital staff renamed her 'the duchess' for her incredibly english accent. The family moved here when she was 12.
My eldest sister moved to the UK from Dublin aged 10, most of the time she has an English accent with some odd pronunciation. After visiting Ireland or when with people from 'home' she sounds more Irish. My middle sister was 5 at the time of the move and does not have any Irish accent at all. I was in my mums tummy when they came here and do not have any Irish accent nor could I fake it.0 -

So, we had a really boring 'business' supper on Friday which has been cancelled this afternoon. Its a really tight month but I'm still tempted to book somewhere and go out. I should save the money........
Michaels would have a card for a free meal for this sort of situation wouldn't he?0 -

You should still go out, somewhere much better.
We're going to a pop up restaurant on Friday. All of the food is local and some is foraged. I'm really excited about it, both the fact that we're having a pop-up in nowheresville and that the menu will be a bit of a surprise as the starter reads "pig, rye, pear" and it all continues along those lines.

We are going to the fete supper on Friday. It is held in the village hall and we all sit at trestle tables. Must be about 80-100 people there. Dinner is free and bring your own booze. A fabulous lady does the cooking (last year a lasagne chicken alfredo) and we watch a movie of highlights of the fete.
If I am up to it, we are leaving a little early so that we can go on elsewhere to see a band a friend of OHs wants to have at his wedding next year.0 -
