Volume 1 of the Harry Potter series is simply delightful, full of whimsy and fun. After that, it goes downhill as the books become more and more bloated. Even though we had to buy them for the kids anyway, I stopped reading after the first couple. I expect that Woldemort got his come-uppance in the last one.
Disagree. Vols 1-4 were great (4 being the first lengthy tome). Vol 5 was very cumbersome though - 600 pages & nothing happened for 550 of them! Vols 6 & especially 7 were much better!
The films were strange. They didn't exactly do it for me, though I have seen them all. First 3 were fine, but felt a bit restrained for me (probably playing to the kids market). Vol 4 has so much action etc in it, & the film makers really struggled with what to cut out. Eventually they ended up with a really poor film. Vol 5 is a good film as the source material was full of dreck easy to cut. Completely the right decision to make the final vol into 2 films.A very tall (female) friend of mine refers to that as 'waste of a tall man', on the basis that PN could manage perfectly well with someone shorter.
Why is it that extremely short women always go for ludicrously tall thin men? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I've not read any of the Harry Potter books, they don't appeal to me.
My mother, sisters and brother all enjoyed them, my Dad looked at them askance and said no more....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Would work especially well in a white room.
Funnily enough I almost got a pencil and traced some shadows on our walls the other day. Might still, but this would be less ...clunky.
I love the idea too. But what a PITA to dust! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
At Las Vegas airport awaiting our flight home. Final treat is that we are seated upstairs in the plane. Apparently that is a treat.
I really have had an amazing holiday, when we were talking about people removing comments on threads, I remember that I used to say houses were lived in 48+ weeks of the year and holidays came and went. I'm revising my opinion.
Lost a v small amount of money at the casino last night. Watched a cirque de soleil show - Vegas is famous for them, I think they are wow but not sure I could sit through a load of them.
I have envy - again! Makes my forthcoming trip to Woolacombe look a bit boring!
I'm with missk (again) in that it'd be Penn & Teller for me too.Chatterbox awards to the women again:

Had a shock this weekend. Turned round in the chair I was sat in to see a huge (for me) cucumber had formed & grown on the ladder! Already about 7 inches long! Very pleasing. Lots of other little fruits on there - so very hopeful.
Have emptied & eaten a tub of carrots. Made some lovely salads, as well as some carrot & leek soup.
Still waiting for my first tomato!
Big hello to davesnave! Hope you are well! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Its nice to clean things you love.
People say the same about chandeliers and stuff, but I like it. I mean, I only used to do it twice a year:o with soapy water But I enjoy handling things that make me happy.
Where as the horrid light fittings we have now would be simple to clean and I just don't because I hate them so don't look up!0 -

Yep. Thought I was going to move in 2005 and threw a kitchen in, still in the same house, with a kitchen that is very neglected and not helped by one of the mutts nibbling the wallpaer when she was a pup.0 -

Perhaps I'm too old and stick-in-the-mud, but I feel no envy at all.
We can get from home to virtually anywhere in this country in the time it would take us just to get to the airport and pass through the security checks if we were going abroad. Holidaying in this country is great at this time of year, and Woolacombe is one of the loveliest spots around. The time I want to go abroad is in the dark days of winter. In the meantime, I'm delighted that the seaside here is virtually deserted in the summer, as everyone flocks to Spain. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
to be honest GBD, I'm really looking forward to it!It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
