Should I sum my income to understand whether I am VAT liable?

Hello guys,
I've recently changed my job, better salary, but at the same time I have been asked to do some consultancy for external non-concurrent businesses and I'm inclined to accept so to have few quids at the end of the year for a decent holiday.
My concern is, after I will have registered myself as a Self-Employed should I register also for VAT?
The VAT threshold is currently £79k, but in HRMC site it is not clear whether this is just the income from the self-employment or it is the sum of every income, so I should include also my salary.
And assuming I should include the salary, would that be my gross salary or my net salary?
Can somebody also redirect me to useful conversation in terms of Self-employment, invoicing, NI to be paid and deduction etc. etc
Many thanks
Andrea

You don't add your salary for VAT purposes.
Is your consultancy likely to go up to. £79k a year?
What us your salary? It will determine what people advise re the SE tax and NI etc.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

No, my consulting incomes will be unlikely to reach 10k in a year time. I've limited time outside the working and commuting hours.0

On the same principle, registering as a self employed and having a regular job, does it make me liable to pay the Class 2 NI because my incomes are higher, or for the sake of simplicity whatever it comes from the regular job should be kept separate?0

You don't need to worry about VAT then.

Don't even THINK about registering for VAT with a turnover of £10k.
Not worth the hassle.0
