Yes in a free market, but we are not in a free housing market.

All the various schemes and helping hands are testament to that.

the helping hands, the mortgage restrictions, the infrastructure levies, stamp duty etc all go into the equation and produce the 'price'

so what would be a 'proper correction'?

    Cheaper than now.
  • Because there has never been a proper correction in house prices so property is still overpriced and is sucking away peoples other living funds.

If that's true, then it should be easy for you to debate without having to resort to ad hominem attacks. Why not try it?

Do you think that someone who so openly cheers on rising house prices really wants a measure that would essentially push prices down?

He likes being right, or at least thinking he is, and he thinks buoyant house prices are beneficial to the economy. I don't agree with a lot of what he says but I've got no reason to suspect that he has a malicious motivation.

Is it overpriced? No I don't think so, if it was there would be nobody buying property.

A house is essential, like utilities and food

the fact people are buying, does not mean they are not over priced, it means that people are paying prices they feel they have to to get a roof over their head

if they were luxury items, and were over priced, then maybe we might see people not buying

Very true. Looking at my local area in Berkshire I am now seeing houses priced around £20-25k higher than 6 months ago. This is because supply is very low indeed and demand rising steadily. It's a killer combination for any house buyer, but ultimately people still need to buy.

Really?? Is house buying the only option. People can rent, take advantage of the opportunity of social housing. If property was over priced the majority of people would be renting,.
