New bride to be - wedding one year today!!

Options
Hello all,

I've read this board on and off for a while now, mainly in the hope one day I'd be able to use it but also to have a giggle at the bridezilla thread (fingers crossed I don't have too many moments of my own!

Anyway, after talking about getting married but never really thinking about when we would do it, my partner and I have found ourselves firmly on the wedding boat! My friends had been pestering us to get our fingers out and do it, and back in June I'd been on a shopping trip with one friend when she announced that we should have a look at a couple of local bridal shops. I even ended up trying on a dress (which I loved!) then we wandered up to look round a beautiful hotel as a possible venue. The lady there told us there were only 2 Saturdays available next summer. Within a week my partner and I had discussed, booked and paid the deposit!

No proposal yet (the ring is a whole other story, trying to get something a bit different, with my birthstone without it costing a small fortune), which I'm reliably told will come at some point after we've found a ring!

We booked our bargain photographer last night. He's only been doing it professionally for 2 years, his portfolio is fab, loved his style of photography etc etc and we get him for a whole day (from getting ready until he's taken shots of the first dance/guests partying away) for the princely sum of £350. All photos on a disc copyright free, with the option of photobooks at a reasonable price.

I was married once before at 18 to what obviously turned out to be the wrong man and my two girls from that relationship will be our flower girls and I've gone from none to four adult bridesmaids! We've decided on a civil ceremony for various reasons, which means our whole day will be in one place. I'm so excited about the whole thing but worrying slightly that there's only a year to do it all in!

The venue does package weddings which works out well for us but this will be a large chunk of the budget. We'll hopefully be able to do everything else on a strict budget (hence being so happy about the photographer's price!). I know I'll be hanging out on this board quite a lot for tips on keeping costs down etc. I have quite a few ideas rushing round in my head of little things I'd like to do or have but we'll just have to see how much it will all be as to whether we do them or not!

You'll hopefully be seeing a lot more of me round here, although I'll try and keep future posts free of waffle (I have a tendency to talk and talk especially when I'm excited lol) :)

A year is plenty of time! I've got 8 months left I still need to do the invitations and the suits.

It will soon fly but set yourself a list of things that are important and tackle the most first but do a few things every week you will soon be sorted :)

Thanks Steph, I know it's going to absolutely fly by, it's a month and a half since we booked it and that's gone in a flash!

Luckily I have chosen 4 very good friends who between them are well organised so I know I've got plenty of help. In fact we're having our first planning meeting tonight and we're all going armed with lists and suggestions :)
