Ear-piercing - Stirling/Falkirk/Paisley/Greenock

Eek! Is daughter's birthday on Monday and I've just remembered that I've been promising her for the past year that she could have her ears pierced. Not sure whether I can get away with this oversight yet (ie. if she's forgotten too!) but in the meantime I need to formulate a plan.
We're completely tied up tomorrow and on Monday itself. I know Claire's do it but apparently the earrings are very expensive (not that I know how much it normally costs!), though at least they're open on a Sunday and I don't think you need an appointment. We live in Stirling but we'll be in Inverclyde over the weekend so Braehead or Greenock are possible.
So, question is... does anyone know anywhere decent in the Paisley, Greenock or Stirling areas that will do ear-piercing on a Sunday, or in Stirling & Falkirk on a weekday?

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...

Funny you should mention Claires Accesories, DD wanted her ear's peirced for a second time. (She is nearly 17,so I can't moan!). Today we looked in a chemist near us, but they wanted £22. We then went to Claires and they charged £9 for a set of Rhodium plated crystal studs, piercing and a bottle of stuff to clean her ears with - not a bad bargain.

I didn't think Claires was expensive either, it does depend on the ear-rings you choose but I think I paid less than £10.
Thing I liked about Claires is the assistant will go through it all, mark out the ears etc then get another assistant and they will do both ears at one time. Makes a big difference as the "shock" is over in one go
We also got a voucher for 20% off which can be used at any time on anything and they have a card where if you buy so many pairs of ear-rings you get a pair free when the card is full.
Also they will check out the ears about six weeks later, so best if its somewhere local to you, or probably if you use a Claires somewhere else they will see you in your local one.

Brilliant, sounds like Claire's is the answer then! Was just a bit worried as a friend told me her studs cost £20 which sounded a bit OTT. Will check them out tomorrow. :Tmpet wrote:Funny you should mention Claires Accesories, DD wanted her ear's peirced for a second time. (She is nearly 17,so I can't moan!). This made me laugh, my mum would never have agreed so I did mine with a needle and an icecube. Stung a bit... :eek:If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
one thing i will say about claires, when my daughter wanted her ears pierced the queue in claire's was quite long so we stood watching for a while and the hygiene inbetween wa terrible, the wiped the piercing gun down with a wipe!!! i realise they were busy but this is just terrible, the risks with piercing are exactly the same as tattooing, although the piering machine was wipped down there will still be many blood borne pathogens present including hep c and many others.
My advice, if theres a queue wait and see what they do with the machine in between piercings and if they wear gloves.
I took my daughter to blue banana in the end as their sterilisation procedures are second to noneRunning total for swagbucks - £270 since Jan

I was £22 in claires to get my eldest done last year. Not at all impressed . The girl doing it was about 17 and she was good with my daughter cos she had a few herself on her face!! That was about the only positive thing I have to say apart from the fact that 2 easr done at same time.. AS you said there was no gloves !!
Anyway after 6 weeks we went to take the earring out and couldn't!! We were on holiday at the time and after 2 days of trying I yanked them out. Needless to say my daughter was beside herself by this time.
Went back to complain and was told that I should have been told that they take the earrings out as they knew about problems with the backs on them. The flys on them were horrendous haven't been able to use the earring since cos of the backs.
I was really angry cos I hadn't been told this . The annoying thing was the safety issue in that if I catch my earring the butterfly gives and the earring comes out. Had she caught the earring her ear would have been torn as there was no way the back was detaching from the earring.
My advice is find somewhere else.I have never met a calorie yet I didn't like!!0 -
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO CLAIRE'S ACCESSORIES!
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO CLAIRE'S ACCESSORIES!
PLEASE DO NOT GO TO CLAIRE'S ACCESSORIES!
Got that?
They use piercing guns, which cannot be sterilised. And they force a blunt stud through, which tears the ear so it will take longer to heal and be more prone to infection. And guns cannot be sterilised. And also your daughter may go into body shock. And she might even lose part of her ear! Because of the force there will be more swelling, and Claires use cheap studs that are too small and don't allow for this swelling. If they get stuck (which happens quite often) then blood supply can be cut off and you lose your earring, if not your ear.
Any reputable piercing place will use a needle. These are usually single use only, or otherwise are autoclaved to clean them thoroughly. This pushes the skin out of the way so is a cleaner hole and heals easier, with less risk of infection and also less pain.
I have several piercings, I know what I'm talking about.
For further info, visit BME, which will tell you all about the dangers of using guns. They specialise in more exotic piercings though (and one of my stories is on there!)Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I have to say, I agree with Juno on this one. My eldest got her ears done at Claires and had no end of problems. I stoppped using the solution supplied by them and started using my own method of cleaning. That and a bit of patience and she has managed to keep her piercings open. But for that she would have had to let them close and I don't think we'd have let her get them done again. Same goes for anyone who wants thier nose or upper ear pierced. Don't go to anyone who says they use a gun, it's horrendous.0

Oh yeah: cleaning solutions.
Make your own. Boil some water in a kettle, and use it to wash out a bottle or something to keep your solution in. Then throw it away.
Boil some more water, and add salt to it at a solution of one teaspoon to one pint of water. Keep this in your cleaned container and use it to clean the piercings
