1. You started the personal insults and so far I haven't sunk to your level. You even had the cheek to raise the subject of my intellect, that is why I told you that I am a chartered surveyor and currently work as a university lecturer, I am also independently wealthy (self made), I came out of early retirement to start lecturing for personal satisfaction and also to try and give something back (my investments make almost double my lecturing salary).
2. You are obviously bitter and twisted about the way things have turned out and I am not going to waste time trying to explain to you that there is no conspiracy, it would be a waste of time, you wouldn’t listen. You obviously blame others for your lack of success. What you need to do is move on and analyse what you need to do to improve your life, whinging on an internet forum is not going to change anything.
1. It was you who began with the personal insults in Post 47 - see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=62721195&postcount=49
Everything I have put in retaliation has been in the context of the insults you initially directed at me!
2. I am happily successful thanks, both my girlfriend and I have stable careers (joint income just under £60k), have moved on from the bad house purchase of 2006 and now have a good house deposit in the bank, which we are increasing by £1.5 k per month We. will (reluctantly) be buying before the end of the year, before HTB kicks off the next bubble
3. I might have guessed that you were a retired baby boomer type person, by your inability and unwillingness to grasp or even comprehend the issues or concerns I have raised.
You were born into an era of unprecedented social mobility ; free university education, affordable housing, long term job security, final salary pensions etc, so it is probably unfair of me to expect you to see things from what is sadly now, a real life perspective
There is no conspiracy. Much of our contemporary economic policy is geared to financing people of your generation through their retirement and care.
While you maybe successful, a significant contributory factor to your wealth will be due to you having been born at the right time and the economic conditions which ensued!
Your cagey responses and willingness to attack me so early in this discussion indicate to me, that I have touched a nerve.
Finally, and again, please answer the question below ;
Please explain why it is advantageous to engineer a high house prices, through a deliberately engineered supply shortage, allow unprecedented levels of immigration and population growth to further drive demand, and then create financial mechanisms to increase prices further, without addressing supply side limitations?0 -

Saying someone is out of touch with reality with regard to house prices and questioning someone's intellect are not the same.

I don't really consider 60k that much to be honest, but let's not go there.

I graduated in 1990, I did say that I retired early, I was about 40 when I first retired, although maybe retired is not the correct term as I actually left work to concentrate on my businesses because I could no longer cope without a decent social life.

My wealth is due entirely to working all the hours possible and additionally in my spare time building up businesses and selling them on when they were successful.

You didn't touch a nerve I just found what you were saying was absolutely ridiculous.

I won't answer your question because it comes from your bitter and twisted mind, it is a loaded question formed from your bitterness. Let me be clear about this, whilst I feel sorry for you, I don't particularly like you so I don't feel inclined to converse with you. That said I'm going out to dinner now anyway.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Handbags ladies.
The "I'm richer than you, 60k is nothing to me" argument is fairly amusing though.0 -

Bitter words from a man who knows he can't win an argument
Not once have you been able to address me without a personal attack or insult. You have not been able to answer any of my questions or challenge what I've written.
Deep down you know that I'm right, but are too pig headed and self righteous to admit that at least some of your self proclaimed success is down to being born at the right time.
I am surprised that someone of your background isnt capable of debate from either perspective. I suspect that your responses are being led by emotion rather than logic. You are being challenged and you don't feel comfortable.
Either way, I am ambivalent towards you. I don't know you well enough to like or dislike you. I hppe that you enjoy your meal

Your responses are not reasoned, and nor have you been able to debate or invalidate what I've written. I'm quite surpised, given your background.

There is no point trying to argue with some of the venal posters on this forum about the mendacity of a rigged housing market.
They are as incapable of understanding discontent with high housing costs as Mary Antoinette was when it came to understanding anger about the cost of bread. And as lacking in foresight of the consequences.0 -

Personally I would prefer it if prices were more affordable but I get fed up with people talking as if prices in the 90s were the norm.0 -

The credit boom years will be the pinnacle. That's a certainty. As that's one dark place the world globally isn't going to return to. The new norm is some way head in the future. As there's much yet to be done. Banks may be on there way to being fixed. Hedge funds and highly geared private equity companies pose another financial danger.0 -

Graham I respect you and I politely suggest that you stay out of this because he isn't going to let it go and it is going to get extremely nasty and you are better out of it. He started it, and our joint income is well over 200k so I don't think that comment is out of place given the circumstances. Although I must admit that I am using pension contributions to keep below the 60% 100k tax threshold.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Someone is extremely bitter that they've been ripped apart in an argument by 92203. Just accept defeat gracefully and move on, you were totally outclassed
