Spoke to CSA on Saturday after receiving letter about them not having received my wage slip information..
:(:(
Got home last night to find a payment shedule had arrived which showing what my contributions should be from now until 2018. Seeing that the amount being asked for in the coming year was more than double what I should pay (based on the CSA online calculator) and then reducing by £5 a year after that - I got straight on the phone..

The advisor was unable to find anything on my file to say that a payment schedule had been sent out, assured me they were still waiting for wage slip information and to disregard the letter. (I take his extension number and name - just in case)..

He seemed to think it was some old system that was sending out random letters.!

Is it any wonder that people get frustrated by the CSA when they do things like this.??

  • I would follow up your telephone call with a letter asking for confirmation of what you were told over the phone to be put in writing. What you describe sounds a lot like phasing to me - have you been subject to phasing before?
I often use a tablet to post, so sometimes my posts will have random letters inserted, or entirely the wrong word if autocorrect is trying to wind me up. Hopefully you'll still know what I mean.

I was moved across from CSA1 to CSA2 a few years ago. I had 5 years of phasing so that as the phrase went 'the PWC had time to get used to the change in maintenance'..

At the time I was paying £72 via CSA1 which dropped to £67 as the phasing started and then dropped £5 a year until the phasing was completed..

My CSA2 assessment at that time was £36 and so I was paying more than the maintenance assessment for the whole 5 year period -I just hope that my child got the benefit of this extra money (and it wasn't siphoned off by the CSA)..

I did tell the advisor that I wouldn't be paying anything like £67 again.!

  • Phasing could only last a max of 5 years, so as you've been through it in full, you can't go through it again. Definitely get something from them in writing to say this latest letter is wrong. If necessary, send a photocopy of what you've received if they still can't see that they've sent you anything.

    Will do..

I did think it strange as last week I got a letter saying they were moving my case back to Bolton but this letter came via Gateshead and it's reference number wasn't in the same format..

Ure old phaseing has ended and the system is basically issueing a new letter for the next 5 years of it, phone up and advise youve allready done the "reduce £5 / year " phasing and they should be able to work out what you mean ( might take a few diffrent calls, phaseing these days is ridiculously rare )

I still think the phasing period was an outrageous idea - but that's academic now (at least in my case). I cannot think of any other instance when changes were dealt with like that...

Latest update is that they've decided I should be paying £30 a week at the moment but the payment schedule/instruction letter has yet to arrive...

And the reason why you should need to make more than one call is what exactly...???

Sadly, phasing is not 'ridiculously rare these days' - do you know nothing?

if NHL put you through to the person dealing with your case, chances are it will be with either debt enforcement if youve missed a payment, or client services if you havent, both sections are not greatly trained in phaseing, there is a complex team for that.

Youll get through to a caseworker who will refer your case to complex, the next phonecall will get you talking to someone who specialises in circs like this.

@crellow, the main sections of the csa employ 100's of caseworkers, debt being the biggest, compliant the next, nct after that, legal, It, IMT,dispat, then right at the bottom is complex, who employ single digit employees to work on cases, mainly from the 1993 scheme who also deal with certain other areas of the buissness that is rare thus does not have to be taught to every employee on every section, phaseing is one of those things.
