Does chicken-keeping save or make any money? I would love some rescue battery chicken and I have brought from local eBay finder a chicken coop. But I not too sure on the cost/commitment..
I would say first off if you have never had chickens before ex bats can take a lot of looking after to start. But as the conditions are a bit better now it maybe easier.
Food is very expensive costing between £7.50- £12.00 a bag of layers pellets. How many girls does your house hold ?
I would say mine I have about 25 would about break even in the spring and summer. But they slow down laying in the Autumn as they lay depending on the light.
They can be time consuming as you will spend ages watching them as they are fascinating with the pecking orders and just their daily rituals.:rotfl:They will follow you about just like a dog get under your feet.Dig up any flower bed (great for weeding ) Dig the biggest holes in the world for dust bathing:D Get out of any tiny gap and always be where they are not supposed to be.Eat all your cat dog bird food (delete where needed):)
Come in your house sit on your sofa or window sill if you have taken your eyes off them or left the door open in error (without the safety gate in place ):) Then when you try to get them out they will hide under your table and which ever side you go to get them they will go the other side
BUT your life will be so much richer for having them and your blood pressure will go right down. They are a pleasure and once you have them you will never look back.
When I got my very first 6 hens a lady said to me don't forget once you have 50 you must inform defra . I said I will never have that amount of hens  A year later I informed Defra :rotfl::rotfl:

Hello, I'm counting £344.85 for today. This is from eBay sales, money paid back to me from a friend which I'm counting on the basis that this money is now available to me -- I hope that makes sense, it's not like I've 'made' it!
Sold some clothes and vinyl records to a friend. Found 14p while continuing to clear out an old room.
Also included £2 from bagging up coppers to take to bank to pay in with a cheque and £18.50 for money saved and given to me by my daughters who really want to help.
As I have to buy school uniform and a washing machine this week am pleased to have worked hard at raising cash outside of work xx boot sale planned for weekend and cash for clothes hopefully tomorrow.0 -
Evening all. As predicted the holiday was not very MSE, however I did find 15 euros roadkill so I'm claiming that!!
Also £40.79 from various cashback and interest in our Santander 123 acc
And Mrs Cautious - WOW!0 -
Hehe thanks Jevvers I am shattered though, just drove myself barmy looking for an eBay item (ok a pair of tights!) I had dropped, the house looks like a bomb has hit it, can't move for stuff in piles sorted for where it can be sold
Right then if you can count Euros I'd better get counting the stash in a pot, am hoping to flog them to my parents. . .must be a few quid therex

The last of my 'bay buyers paid up promptly so that's added another £7.64 profit to add to the pot this month
I don't think I'll be able to do much more this week now as sadly my mother passed away at the weekend (as we were prepared for) and so this week we've got all the funeral arrangements for sort out (she died in a nursing home 200 miles away where she lived, so it's all a bit busy and long-distance!)
But I am due £25 payout from Vivatic which should arrive on the last working day this month so... it looks like I might make target after all! :TNOV 2014 £151.74/£150 ... DEC 2014 £303.81/300 ... JAN 2015 £143.33/£150
FEBRUARY 2015 £25.79/£100
