Are pet vacuums better than ordinary?

I've got 4 cats and not a bad little vacuum (1800 w). Some of the pet vacuums are the same spees so I'm wondering what makes them better. I see some have rubber bits on the bottom, bu mine has bristles that pick up hair. Are they worth buying? ANy recommendations?

many thanks
Shanni

The Dyson range of hoovers (for example the DC14's) are all identicle models (except the allergy). The only difference between the original and the animal is the animal comes with the turbo brush, which is good but you might aswell just get the original.

When we had 5 dogs we mostly used the dyson but inbetween tried the miele cat and dog and we noticed the differance in favour of the dyson, my hubby and daughter have mild asthma and this came back when we used the miele and went when we realised and bought another dyson, so for my family and pets its a dyson.

Hi - we have a Miele c&d and it is a thing of wonder. Also, because it is bagless my husband uses it constantly, simply so he can show me how much hair he has collected in it! Unpleasant - but if it gets me out of hoovering it can't be bad.
