If he doesnt have one already then getting one could be a problem if he is being refused overdrafts.

i asked for an overdraft off barclays with my visa debt card which my wages get paid into but they said i needed the new contact less card to have one and my wages paid into that one before i could ask for an overdraft,,??

I find it odd the member of staff said this to you.

The card has no bearing on you getting an OD.

Perhaps they was talking about a new account type, and it just happened to come with contactless card as standard.

cant see why they would suggest changing the card for an overdraft, that makes no sense

ive just rang them back Barclays and they said my Visa Debt card is just a basic cash card,, and they couldnt do an overdraft on the new card due to no past history on it and couldnt use the credit history off my old card to get one even though im the same person,,
but they told me to make another appointment in bank anyway and asked how much i needed in overdraft ,,so ive got to go in friday,...

if i dont get it would it be wise asking my bank for a credit card,,or try someone else?

if they dont give you the overdraft, they wont give you a credit card.

Sounds like they will change your account to a current account so you can get an overdraft.
It might only be a small one thou, i think the default for barclays is £200

So its not simply changing of the card, but of the actual account type.

I'd seriously look at a cheaper bike in the meantime, just to get you about. There is very little difference in a bike that originally cost 200 and a bike that costs 400.
When I look for a decent bike I look at my local cycling clubs for sale sites, semi pro cyclists like to have the latest year model and will offload last years or 2 years ago model for silly prices. (normally about 50%).
This would result in a very decent bike spec for £500.
