HSBC Stakeholder or Other?

Hi,
Some years back my employer offered to contribute to a HSBC Stakeholder pension. I put into this for a number of years before being made redundant. When my employers contributions stopped, so did mine.
Since leaving permernant employment (some four years back), I've been working as a hourly paid lecturer. I only work a few hours a week so don't earn a great deal which is why I've never carried on adding to my pension.
As I approach 40 I'm beginning to think I need to TRY and contribute in some way. However I haven't a clue how to proceed. I don't know whether the two colleges I work for have their own scheme with someone, or whether it's down to me to find a pension? Would HSBC be better than the colleges? Who am I best contacting first? With working for two different colleges is this likely to be an issue?
Thoughts and contributions welcome. Thanks

Do the colleges not offer a pension scheme? Read http://www.ucu.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1320
And if you join you might wish to explore the possibility of transferring in your old scheme.0
