I posted this last night on the Consumables board, but no one there seems to want to talk to me, so maybe one of you lovelies could help me?
New vs Recycled vs Refillable - Help!!!
Hi, sorry to ask an obvious question, but I'm not very techie.... I have just been given a HP PSC 2355 and I need to buy cartridges for it. I looked at the HP thread, and have looked at three or four of the sites, but I'm confused as to which cartridges to buy. I don't intend to use the printer very much, it will be mainly for printing letters etc, but I may also try a coulpe of photos when I'm a bit braver.
So my question is, for the amount I'm going to use the printer, I am better going for authentic HP, non-HP cartridges, recycled cartridges or refillable ones?
Any advice GRATEFULLY recieved...
Cheers guys

In my experience, the non-authentic inks can clog everything up.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I'd agree with this and would NEVER buy non-authentic cartridges. Some one trying to cut cost bought a load of these at my last employer and then ended up having to re-order the originals anyway and pay for the printers to be clean or re-placed.In my experience, the non-authentic inks can clog everything up.
I'm sure they are better these days but I would not buy them.Regards,
Dave

Sarah i'm no techie either, but its left to me to buy ink so this is advice from a novice

With our old printer (epsom) buying compatables was fine and worked out alot cheaper, with our new cannon though they drove me mad as as lenny said they would clog up all the time so I went back to genuine. Due to the cost though as I print business stuff I have ordered one black combatable ink from a few of the companies recommended on that mse board to try out. Think I have a rubberfrog.com one in at the moment with no problems. So might be worth trying, but it seems to depend on your make of printer and who you order off etc so don't order too many ans see what you prefer.0 -
I use Cartridge World to re-fill and have never had a problem (I have Lexmark)0

I think refilling with authentic ink is fine as well and cheaper in the long run. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I know what you mean, the wealth of knowledge and experience on DFW is immense. I keep saying this, but its true, SS says that he doesn't even take a !!!!!! before asking for advice on MSE first. Should I strain or not for example:rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I've had problems (and so have the in-laws) with non-authentic cartridges before. I'd go for the HP ones every time.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

I deal with this one every day, at our office, for our workhorse printer (Epson) i use cheap refills, as anything that comes out of it we are not bothered about the quality / colour / presentation. Purely just a draft / email printer.
Sometimes gives us problems with the ink but nothing major.
We also have a HP printer, now this; I would never ever put cheap refill cartridges in them! The printer is used for the complete opposite of our Epson and I believe that the original make / model cartridges are the only ones that should be used in it!
Works for us!0
