I think that’s my problem, I don’t actually know! 38 and not a much of a clue.
Actually that’s not strictly true, just nothing realistic.
I love parts of my current role, I like dabbling with design, moving floor plans around (I refurbish houses (on paper and mentally) on rightmove.co.uk for fun!) I could quite happily do property development on a small scale. I do have quite a good eye for what will work and what wont, as well as I can be quite practical when it comes to architects and builders sticking things where they shouldn’t be and being all “artistic”, and doing this outweighs the dull bits of admin in-between. I lack the funds to get going; even if I could get some sort of start up loan I would need some cash behind me.
My dream would be to run B&B in The Lakes somewhere (by oop North, I mean Cumbria - all my family are there). I obviously don’t have the funds for this either!
I think what I really need is a small lottery win.
OK So I don't know how to engineer the lottery win (and anyway this week it's my turn)...
HOWEVER housing is much cheaper oop north would buying your first place help to feed the designer in you?
When you come back up here will you be able to stay with family for a time? If you weren't paying rent etc then you could probably save a deposit (after getting a job) in six months...
I have a friend who aided her need to save for a deposit by buying cheap furniture at car boot, and auctions -we're talking bout £2 or £3 a piece and then painting it up 'shabby chic' style.... selling on facebook and gumtree...
I realize it's not an interior design firm - but it was a useful hobby...
I came up to Yorkshire (from Reading via Devon) to be with my family, and am now happily studying for my degree....
I realise the perfect job will not just fall into your lap - but when are you thinking of moving? Will it be possible to sign up now for courses starting in September (look for free stuff if you don't know what to do), a great way of getting out and about if you are back with the 'rents...
