Just to give some feedback on what happened in case anyone finds this thread.

I went out and bought a battery from euro car parts this morning. Fitted it and the car started first time.

I read on another website somewhere that if you measure the battery with a multimeter while someone else turns the engine it mustn't drop below 9.6volts which mine did. Even though my battery read 12.5v with engine off and 14.5v while engine on which was correct.

    Thanks to all that replied

Didn't I thank you on that comment when you posted it? ;)

I honestly didn't understand that video at the time, it took me 2 days of reading guides and watching videos. Now when I watch that video back its clear as day.

I'm not a car person at all and I'm really chuffed that I managed to change the battery to be honest. Next up... change tire! Ha!

    Well, that's what I call a result! :T

I'd bet you'll have far more confidence in doing other little jobs in future.
I guess being electrically and electronics trained, plus self taught in car mechanics, the video seemed simple to me. People do often tell me to try to look from other peoples perspectives, but I have trouble doing that :s

Doing these things for yourself is true money saving, because in future you'll have the "can I fix this?" mindset, instead of just feeling helpless and heading straight down to Crapfit (or similar). :rotfl:

Worth practising that on the driveway or in a car park.

Firstly it is easy to do. Secondly you'll know you can do it if need be. Thirdly it looks like it could easy save you another fifty sheets so that's very MSE.
