Twin Brothers details on my husbands credit file??

Hi
We have just done one of the free for 30 days credit score reports and was very surprised to find that my husbands twin brothers credit details (including his poor track record) is included under my husbands name. How could this be so? His credit score is only just over 500 yet he has never defaulted and although we have unsecured depts we are paying them off with the snowball method and so should be spot on. Any help on how we can get this sorted out as Im sure his brothers IVA and defaults will be affecting our score and vice versa (his in a good way!). We are so wanting to apply for a mortgage next year when we are debt free and this will affect that I feel sure... please help?

He needs to inform the credit ref agency you used plus check the others as it might be the same for them. Sounds like its a mix up but with different names I wouldn't have thought it could happen.
  • Thank you, I sent a message to the company I obtained the report from and they are raising a dispute enquiry with Equifax, who seem to be the main culprit for the mix up, 80% of the info they gave was for my husbands twin! Although surprisingly Natwest Bank have also detailed my brother in laws personal loans and CC's on Callcredit too???
I feel sure there is a Data Protection Violation in here somewhere?

no data protection violation, its simply just a mistake, it happens (especially by Equifax) Make sure you check all 3, Equifax, Experian and CallCredit, and contact each of them that have the error to get them to sort it

Very common for twins files to get mixed up, as mentioned inform the CRA's.

We store and retrieve data primarily by full name, DOB and address, so mix-ups like this are rare, especially as twins don't usually share the same name. I'm sure the CRA in question will help you quickly set the record straight.
