I’m getting a bit bored of having the same food all thetime!
My dinner is usually freezer food (frozen fish, chicken, chipsetc) because I don’t have to worry about it going off.
My lunches and breakfast are generally bought on the day becausewhenever I’ve bought stuff in the past with the intention to make it, I’veeither forgotten to do it in the mad rush of getting to my train on time OR it’sgone off because it’s been sat there too long – so I end up buying one set ofmeat for example and having the same sandwich every day.
So, I’m coming to you, you money saving experts for adviceon how I can stock the shelves, freezer or fridge in a way that works! There’sonly me to make breakfast, lunches and dinner for so any advice you can givewould be much much MUCH appreciated!
Thanks
Liz

How about batch cooking? Ie make a huge shepherds pie or lasagne, portion it out into microwaveable tubs and then freeze. Home made ready meals
Make sandwiches the night before, pop in fridge and leave a note where you can see it to grab in the morning.
I keep tinned tuna, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheese, one or two packs of meat in stock and I end up with an ok variety for sandwiches.0 -
I agree with the batch cooking to.
Why not make extra portions when cooking your dinner and freeze it or have some for lunch following day if you have microwave at work.
I used to alwys buy sandwiches for lunches, but now alway plan ahead the night before.
For my lunch today and tomorrow it is Tuna Salad (I mixed the tuna with onions and salad cream last night, and I took it all with me this morning. Lunch will probably work out at £5.00 for the week. I will have cooked chicken breast with salad for rest of the week. (I bulk buy chicken and freeze into portions eg. 5.6 kgs for £22.00 and much bigger size than supermaket portions.
Do you have a slow cooker, as these are great for batch cooking. You could get some mince and use half for a chilli, and the other half for bolgnaise or shepherds pie, and then freeze into potion sizes.0 -
What storage space/facilities do you have at work? Fridge? Toaster? Microwave etc?
Can you take a box of cereal to work and have a bowl there? Can you take a loaf of bread and some jam in for toast? It would work out cheaper to buy a packet of croissants at the weekend than buy one every day. Could you store some yoghurts and fruit there, replenishing the stocks during the week? Pots of houmous, dips, with crackers or bread will cover a couple of days too. Or sandwiches can be made and stored the night before.
Taking lunch and breakfast is about being disciplined to prepare it the night before - sorry, I'm terrible at it too, but tens mins of an evening has to be set aside!
Dinners - definitely batch cook some ready meals. Lasagne, spag bols, cottage pie, shepherds pie, pasta bakes etc - you just need to take one out the night before and it will be defrosted when you get in.Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
