When a comp prize is described as a "family holiday" or such like then does that mean a family HAS to go if you win?
I have been avoiding any comps like that as i don't have a family with kids, so anything like that doesn't seem suitable, but am i right in doing that?
I have read many terms and conditions that state that the prizes enables "2 adults and 2 children' but does that means that HAS to be the case?
If i entered such a comp and won and then for example only could use the prize with another adult, would that be possible or would i just not be able to use the prize and it be void?

I'm in the same position. There was a case recently where a family comp was won and then withdrawn as they didn't qualify. Other people have managed to negotiate changes. Unless it's definitely a kiddy type holiday I tend to enter and will then worry about it if I win. I know of others who have entered couples holidays then negotiated adding children, same thing really.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I think that would really depend on the individual company and their policies regarding their prize. However, I know that a lot of people on this forum would disagree with a single person entering for family prizes. In the way that I wouldn't enter to win a gluten free hamper, for example, because I don't need gluten free items, yet people on a gluten free diet only get rare chances to win a suitable prize.
It's a personal decision, but the only way to know what a company would allow is to see it in their T&C's I would guess. Thanks to all posters!0 -
I tend to avoid family holidays as I'm not too tolerant of badly behaved children!!. as for days out it depends on the wording - if it says up to then I'll enter - if it says for 2 adults & x children then I won'tproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I won an annual family pass to Wookey Hole, 2 adults and 2 children. I'm a single mum with an adult daughter in uni but we still went, they were surprised there were no children but not at all bothered.2014 - £12360

I've found that 'family' holidays will only fit a small percentage of 'families' anyway!
I am single mum of two teenage children (age 14 & 16). A lot of the 'family' comps tend to be for 2 adults and 2 children aged under 12. I enter anyway with the hope that I could negotiate (but fully aware that I could disqualify myself too because I don't fit their definition of a family).:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
I have won a family holiday, and managed to negotiate to take my adult daughter as we have no youngsters, The hotel was for 2 rooms so no problem. I tend to enter and hope they will come and go.0

Must admit I've been put off in the past entering these family holiday comps, might enter some now & if lucky enough to win hopefully negotiate!

I won for my daughter and husband a family holiday to Hawaii from the Tesco magazine. There was no problem in that they did not have children to take with them but they got nothing to make up for the lesser costs which was OK .0

Most companies which bother to give away holidays are going to be flexible to some degree. They won't necessarily enforce the precise wording or even the rules, if what you want is reasaonable. The very best of them won't mind a bit of extra expense, so asking for *fewer* holiday places is easy!
However... I suppose that now I am part of a definitive family (two adults, two kids under 12), I hunt out the family comps specifically. So please give us a chance!

I have heard of people negotiating for extra children when they don't meet the criteria of 2 x 2 (I don't we're 2 x 3 so would enter and then hope for negotiation if I did win).
As for entering if you're a single person or couple there aren't that many family holiday comps around whereas there are loads of the couple type available so perhaps think about whether it's fair to enter the family ones and take a chance from people with kids to win?
just a thought:A0
