I am looking for a new bike and ideally would like a hybrid for road and light off road (dirt track) use. wont be used for competitions etc just fitness.
My existing bike is giving up the ghost.
Dont want to spend too much as on a limited budget.
I spotted this Carrera Subway 11/12 model in halfords for £259 which has mechanical disc brakes
any thoughts

The tyres seem rather large and heavy for urban/hybrid use.0 -

Also it only has 26" wheels - I'd say it was more of a mountain bike than a hybrid.
Which will you be doing more of? Road or dirt track?
It would probably be OK if you're going to mostly be on tracks, but if you're going to be on the road most of the time I'd definitely be looking for something with 700C wheels.0 -

£289.99 for a hybrid with 700x35c tyres.
Gets a reasonable write up

on a £300 budget I'd probably look at 2nd hand. While new is always nice you could get a lot more bike for your money on a year old bike.
I see a lot on well known auction sites lately where people have bought them, ridden them a few times and left them in the garage ever since.0 -
It will be mostly dirt canal paths with some road use.
FOUND THIS GIANT ESCAPE 3 @ £299
