Vitamins & Advice for when planning to conceive

Some advice please!!

So the time has come when hubby and I have decided to start planning a family - scary!!!!

Implant will be coming out and i want to start taking a multivitamin with folic acid in to helpe me physically prepare. Looked in my local tesco at them as on 3 for 2.

Seven seas is priced between 4-5 pounds and has 100% or nearly for its vitamins.
The "vita-thingy" is priced between 7-8 pounds and has several times the recommended daily amounts of the vitamin content.

My dilemma:-
- Do we really need to have that amount of vitamins when some of them the body can't store it or is it worth it when trying to conceive?
- What do folks think of these "brands" if anyone has used them?

Any other advice would helpful too!!

Thanks !!
Snowy

There's a good article on vitamins on the guardian website (2 links below).

The quote that most interested me I've copied and pasted below.

What vitamin supplements do you think are most over-consumed? Also, surely you're not arguing against prenatal vitamins during pregnancy.

    Hi Caroline,
Certain situations clearly require vitamins. Pre-natal vitamins are necessary because they contain vitamin B9 (folic acid), which is necessary to avoid congenital abnormalities such as spina bifida. Also, babies who are exclusively breast fed should receive supplemental vitamin D.
As a general rule, people who aren't food fadists (like vegans) get the vitamins they need in their diet. The notion we have that we can just pop in a vitamin in lieu of a healthy diet isn't a good one. Focus on the diet, not the pill.

Basically take pre natal vitamins and start 3 months before you start TTC. I've been taking them for over 2 years now- after the initial excitement of buying expensive wellwoman etc. wore off I know just buy the cheapest pre natal vits I can find. When you check the back and the contents they're all pretty much the same.

The TTC forum page on here is good for support and advice. Good luck!
