I have some smart, black trousers from M&S which are a dream to launder. Trousers means I can wear longer tops. TBH I would go for black trousers and look for tops in places like Primark and keep an eye on the sales.

Trousers means ankle boots and socks in winter and not tights - which ladder;)

Esprit sale for good quality trousers that aren't that repulsive bootleg stretchy nylon shiny office cut (shudders) and eBay for shirts, blouses, tops etc.

Personal bugbear: black and/or grey women's office wear...so much of it looks cheap and nasty and and really samey. To be it shouts "unimaginative" from the get-go, as nobdoy wants to wear their boring interview suit all year round.... Better to buy some nice seperates and dress them up yourself with a nice scarf or something. A few decent quality cardis are always great too.

I do well fitting trousers and skirt, usually NEXT, bulk buy from the sale. Tops I do cheaper and again sale items. Classic item that dont really date. When the weather is especially hot I do long loose skirts and smart dresses.
Shoes I again do cheap for the summer, wedge style sandles and but more expenses boots and shoes for the winter. Again sales.

    Good luck with the job.

Layer! A few vest tops that can be worn underneath blouses, cardigans, blazers, etc etc. It's already been said, but using different accessories can really help :)

I really am scuppered, i have an interview on tuesday but can't find a shirt to wear that fits.
I would buy something off bravissimo but its really pricy.
I'm not sure what to do, wear my shirt that gapes horribly at the chest or .......not wear a shirt?

I read that Marks and Spencers now stock an anti gap shirt for top heavy women. Can't remember how much they are but you might want to check them out :)

Well now, you can get quite clever with work clothes, if you're ambitious. If you have women bossess, then stay conservative and do not make yourself stunning (research shows attractiveness is a negative contributor to career, in a female run busineess)

and just the oppostie if you're working under men. Get sexy, girl, and reap the rewards.

I totally and utterly disagree with this. I work for a large organisation that is over 80% male. My line management chain are all men, as are most of my colleagues. I struggle when it comes to dressing for work. I rarely if ever wear heels, no short skirts, nothing too tight. I do wear make-up, but it's minimal for work. I have a hard enough time being taken seriously for my brain (I work in science), let alone if I came to work dressed 'sexily'!

In fact, just the other week, a very young (and clueless) intern in the team told me that if I did wear high heels to work, I'd look 'even more unprofessional'. On questioning he revealed this was because I am small and blonde and dress reasonable fashionably (i.e. I don't wear socks and crocs to work).

It's effing difficult enough in the male-dominated world of work, without making a rod for your own back and dressing like a street-walker! In an ideal world, it wouldn't matter what people wore as long as it was clean, tidy and appropriate. But sadly, if a woman dresses, or is perceived to dress sexily for work, she will be judged on that, and not in a positive way.

Oh and BTW OP, have a look on Ebay. I just bought a pure silk shirt and a cashmere jumper (never worn) for less than 20 quid!

And congrats on the new job!

Best tights for work are primarks tights with the "slimming" top. They don't slim at all but they also stay in place all day and I've never ripped a pair! I think they cost £5, don't buy the cheaper ones.

I know a website where you can see many of the website on a single platform which deals in online shopping whether they relate to clothes or cosmetic etc. You can take a look on the website i.e. wantr.com.
Here you can find a lots of stuff for you and they will advice you which could look more gorgeous on you.
