I have phoned an agency enquiring about registering with them for work at local hospital as i know they recruit a lot of people for there for cleaning and food serving.

The guy mentioned i`d need an Enhanced CRB check before i could register

How and where would i get one? as i ve looked online a bit and apparently you cannot get one yourself :o and i havent been in work for agesssss

If your employer is the agency then they should be getting it done for you. Some agencies have started charging to get this I believe.
I would phone the agency back and ask them to sort the CRB out for you.I've worked in CRB checked jobs all my life and I've never had to sort out my own.
  • As above. The agency/employer should send you the relevant forms. You normally fill out part and the employer the rest. Depending on the agency you may or may not have to pay the fees - usually between £30 and £60 depending on which part of UK you are working.

If you've never had one then you could never register and you can't get a CRB check done anymore!

Though they might not place you in a hospital, you should still be able to register with them if they supply staff to other organisations.

The agency should also know that CRB checks weren't transferable.
What they should now be looking for is a DBS check - and they would need to check your ID and submit forms you had completed.

    The system has changed.

You need a DBS certificate (Disclosure and Barring Service) and you can obtain this for yourself. Unlike CRB checks, you do not need to get a new DBS Certificate for each employer.

    See here for more info.

This is not regulated activity and should not require an enhanced disclosure.

    "Vulnerable adults"

The point your making is not clear.

"It is not acceptable to blanket check all staff in an organisation regardless of job role. For example, if you have administrative or support staff that are NOT in regular contact with young people or vulnerable adults, as defined above, it is unlikely they will need an Enhanced Check."
