Sick note extension question

My fit note runs out on Monday. Though been told today that my op is this Thursday (1/8). Having it done at a private hospital, but NHS are paying for it

Now, can the GP extend the fit note for 2 days as both Tuesday and Wednesday are my days in at work? If I have to go back to work for those two days, work will treat my sickness as two periods. If I have these two days off sick, it would be classed as period of sickness. The hospital will cover me with their fit note for 2 weeks initially. I don't think two fit notes can overlap.

The two colleagues that had the same operation as me in the past 12 months, both had a further week off sick and got the fit note from their GP.

You need to ask the GP?

It depends why you are off while awaiting your Op?

Are you going back to work straight after? Sounds like you may need a new Note anyway.

It is OK for them to overlap as long as there are no gaps.

That's fine then. Off to the GP drop in clinic Monday morning. Then ringing work and speaking to the senior team leader to update her and rough date when I will be back at work. My dept is managerless at the moment as one left on Monday and the other one starts early next month - as the new one is on holiday at the mo.

If it is clear that there will be a recovery period after the op, your GP would normally give you a continuation fit-note for the period that you are expected to be unfit for work, in the normal way.
