Nerdy Comp Help

Hi all,
I am a proper nerd deep down. I love movies and comics and all that geeky stuff.
If there are any fellow nerds/geeks here (come on, comping must attract a few more than me) - are there any good comps (regular) that offer some top notch geeky stuff?
Models, toys, comics, Blu-rays (not so much interested in DVDs now I use Blu-rays) anything Superhero/Sci-Fi/LOTR/Doctor Who/proper nerdy comps!
I've never seen a nerdy comp, but then I'm new to this!
wiliwni!

Empire regularly do a good run of comps which are posted by FizzyHelen. They do blu-rays, posters sometimes figurines etc as do Kerrang now and again. Rock and nerd go so well together
I'm sure I have seen a tonne of Dr Who ones as well - it may be worth searching for key words in the forum search. Just remember to ignore the ones in Game Over!0 -
Thank you!
You are right, Rock and Nerd do go very well together - I'm a huge metal fan! Kerrang is a good call, I don't really read that so I can check that one out."Do or do not, there is no try"0 -
If I were you, I would register to greatcompetitions.co.uk where Kerrang hosts it's competitions. I believe elver man posts these.
Good luck! Rember if you find any nerdy comps that aren't posted then let us know... especially if it involves Simon Pegg!0 -
Lol, are we all big Simon Pegg fans here then?
I haven't seen World's End yet but really want to!"Do or do not, there is no try"0 -
Hello YWS - Another nerdy comper here - our biggest room is now my husband's Command Centre, full of his GI Joe, Action Force, Star Wars, Action Man, Transformers, Nintendo G&W, Lego etc. (literally shelved floor to ceiling), plus downstairs there's three shelves full of my Lego and two cabinets filled with MASK, Care Bears, Pocketeers, more Lego, Real Ghostbusters and odd bits of weirdness.
Oddest nerd moment so far: accidentally swearing (a very, very bad swear word) in a lift in front of Larry Hama while dressed as Lady Jaye from GI Joe. Also having breakfast with Star Wars producer Robert Watts was pretty awesome!
My favourite nerdy comps to enter are the ones for movie merchandise - I really wanted one of those Warm Bodies hoodies when they were doing the rounds but didn't get one. I could kill for some Wolverine, World's End or Pacific Rim merchandise. There's always loads of comps for merch around the time of the cinema release, and then often for the DVD release as well.
If you like Lego, there's often Lego comps either in the magazine "standard" entries, or in the magazine dailies. My mum won some Technics this year from the mag dailies.
Neo Mag have quite a few comps for Anime/Japanese DVDs. There's also a lot of Studio Ghibli stuff doing the rounds at the moment.Would LOVE to win:
A hamper - any sort! A goody bag - any sort! A UK mini-break. A year's supply of something foodie. Anything Sci-Fi related
2013 wins - Cutting Room book, Rock n Rose necklace, £50 M&S voucher, Greggs coffee, £70 voucher for a Onesie0 -
Between myself, my son & son-in-law to be we're rather nerdy - I've won a few anime dvds but not really anything elseproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

I've seen a fair few competitions from sci-fi websites, and I also tend to also enter every technology and video game competition that I can too.
Sci-fi prizes are less common than technology and video game ones but they are there and I have seen them on many an occasion.0 -
kinda depends what you mean by "nerdy"
Like I wouldn't expect to see White Dwarf comps on here since I don't think GW runs comps that don't require awesome effort, and mad skillz (must check new issue though, came in today)
The thing that I see is, there will be no competitions for something unless it's related to some current "thing". Like you won't see LOTR competitions, but come close to the release of Hobbit part deux, you'll see a lot of Hobbit comps.
Around video game release dates you see comps for free games, or merch, or gaming systems including the game and the merch.
For science nerds, there's currently a pretty cool looking telescope comp going on right now, and Maplins seems to run comps fairly regularly.
And Worlds End, good fun
Pacific Rim, GO SEE! Big stompy Mechs and Big Aliens, what could be wrong with that?0 -
I loved Pacific Rim! Great stuff; now I would love to win a Jaeger model, or even a Kaiju, but I bet they won't really be going now until the Blu-ray comes out, will it, given what you fine folks have said above.
Thanks so much for the feedback everyone!
By 'nerdy' I meant things nerd media and fiction - movies, TV shows, etc - the kind of nerd stuff that makes my science-nerd friend mad with fury with all the...shall we say...'liberal science'. lol"Do or do not, there is no try"0
