Coleslaw - not wasting it?

  • I agree with other posters in that I too, only ever use 1/4 cabbage for hm coleslaw & was going to suggest not dressing the full quantities in your recipe at once ( i.e. 1/2 today & 1/2 later) as the shredded veg should last longer dry, but am pleased to see that I was beaten to that suggestion :-D.

Like Spendless, potatoes, cabbage, carrots & onions are veg that I never worry about having a few extra of, as I find they last well & are quite versatile.

Have you tried the green bags sold in places like B&M and Home Bargains? You could keep part of the cabbage in one of them for at least a week in the salad drawer.
I find that they keep veg for much longer than normal. A great remedy for 'bendy carrots' too. :)

Ive been using these for a couple of years.
On Christmas I put some unused sprouts in on Christmas Eve
and on New Years day, they came out as fresh as the day they went in there.

They are washable so last for ages too.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I have a red cabbage in the fridge that I used a quarter of last Monday so a week ago exactly, the rest is still fine it is just in the fridge drawer along with some carrots and some celery.
I think it will be fine until at least the end of this week.
