You have the choice of the home button being available or not. It depends on which way round the iPad is put into the case. Instructions that come with the case explain.

The fisher price apps are available on the iTunes Store for anyone to use, not just if you buy the case.

Or - keep the rings on, so he won't WANT to play with it- he's 6 for pete's sake -not old enough to be using one anyway! Why not just buy age-appropeiate technology like a V-Tech 'laptop'? Never understood why parents feel the need to foist high technology onto their children- let kids be kids! Letting technology be a babysitter is damaging to children's imaginations and social skills.

He uses them at school, they can be educational. He is not allowed to play games, all the apps on there are educational games where he has to spell etc to make them work. he is learning whilst playing. I take your point about the 'babysitting' there has to be rules he is not allowed to on there for too long however I would rather him be using the ipad than watching the tv.

My eldest is 7. She can use the iPad when supervised. If she was going to get her own tablet, it would be a sub-£100 Android that would do the basics.

The ipad we have cost £150 it is the old original version, I brought it instead of spending the same amount on a newer android. The reason I went for the ipad was because son uses them at school and I wanted him to have the same apps at home so he could carry on with his learning.

That's fine, imo. Like I said, each to their own, but I don't get parents splashing out several hundred on the latest model for a pre-school child.

Oops, didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers! I'm just old and tightfisted, hence the shock that babies get use of ipads. Mine had cardboard books that they could chew! :)

I think a lot of it is just confusion from those parents that do allow their children to use their iPads, why the rest of technology can advance but it seems shocking that babies should be able to use those advanced technologies as well.

I'm the first to judge people that let technology babysit their children, but I absolutely love the occasional half-hour loading up a painting app and watching a 14 month old baby create a piece of 'art'. The app I have on my phone makes a sound every time they touch the screen, so as they sit and play the sounds encourage them to create the picture. Sometimes, messy art play is great. Sometimes, all you want to do is load an app and spend some time making pictures together.

The other apps I have are a virtual keyboard that plays farmyard animal sounds, and a virtual monkey that keeps kids giggling for quite a while.

I love how these touch and respond things stimulate a small child. I guess a lot like those cardboard books with a circular button to make sounds or play a tune.

But yes, the menu button causes all sorts of issues because it's very attractive to little ones. I love the idea of this to protect my iPad...just have to remember to remove the cover before I take it to a business meeting!

6 year olds are plenty old enough to use ipads, since they use computers at school. They have some great books and educational uses, used in moderation they are fab.

I wouldn't bother with anything else - the ipad will last them longer than a v-tech, if they are not boisterous children of course.

Nor did we foist it on our son, l suspect every parent with an ipad will tell you their kids love to get on them. ;)

    Happy moneysaving all.

I have reserved one for my daughter, she has managed to destroy 2 of the griffin cases so this has to be worth a try, she is 7 with autism, for those of you who think young children should not be using iPads I strongly disagree, it has helped my daughter so much, has helped her to communicate and is great for keeping her busy whilst waiting for appointments ( and eating out, waiting for meals ), there are a lot of educational apps for young kids, sadly technology will play a huge part in our kids lives ( everything involves computers and tablets now ) so why not let them use it? ( as long as they are not on it 24\7).

We have one of these cases and they are great.

For anyone looking at apps for their children, we love Wonderkind. Some are free and some cost a couple of pounds. Our favourite is Firefighters. ( When I say our,I really mean mine, my grandson is still a bit young for it) :rotfl:

The fisher price apps are all free and also very good.
