On going saga which I posted about a while back.

My partner was paying way too much tax. HMRC eventually looked into and agreed with him (after a positive meeting with them) he's just had a cheque for £1100 which was brilliant.

Also given a new tax code of 221T for 2013-14. He has a company car + bus/private fuel.

We were expecting a normal salary this month (after many, many months of low salaries) he's just checked his pay slip and he has had £1000 more this month than we were expecting and he's paid - £258 in tax!

We couldn't believe it!

Anyone know what that tax code means. It's lovely but we are in shock!

Louise

The tax code means he has £2219 tax allowance for the year - ie rather less than a standard one.

This month's pay is getting him up to date - don't expect this every month

The cheque will have been for last/previous years

We've put it the cheque in our savings and moved the extra salary too as worried as to what to do with it.

So should he have a normal month next month? He earns £40,000. I presume he will be issued with another tax code again at some point?

He should have had a notice confirming the change of code.

Only he will know if the code is correct based on what is contained in there.

Based on the fact he has received an in-year rpyt through his salary, then obviously prior to this months payment his code was less than 221T.

Obviously HMRC have reviewed the code at the same time as reviewing the previous year, and have updated the code based on the information they hold.
