You say that you are already working part-time. Does that give you time to look around for other part-time / casual jobs, the kind that would fit in with retirement?
On the over 55s board there are some threads with ideas. I posted one some time ago, listing my retired friends' ways of making extra cash. Ranges from fairly formal part-time jobs to local casual work and stuff like film extras & home sitting. Retired public servants are often wanted for things like parish council clerking, as well as being regarded as reliable for other things.
If it suits you, it's quite a good way to go into retirement.

This seems like a really good option as I currently work 3 days per week. Will put all this together, thanks very much

Will look again at the market but I am still wary as the last time my money was invested by FA. Value halved, had to wait 8 years to get just the investment back.

This sounds like you went to a salesman and bought a product- which did very badly. One that paid the salesman a big bonus but was a bad idea from the start.

I very rarely have EVER lost anything like that on even a single share (apart from some low value punts in which the company went bust). Most others I have bought have don so well over the years, the few that went bust or halved haven't really dented my overall portfolio.

I am talking about buying an income fund or 2+, bought for the long term but which you can sell any time you wanted (ie no waiting for a product to mature).

If you leave all the 65K and the 85K in cash, you are Guaranteed to lose money over time. As nothing out there beats inflation at the moment.
