Sick of Yahoo after forced update! please recommend an email alternative

Can someone please recommend a decent alternative email to yahoo. I really don’t like their recent forced upgrade. It takes a long time on my computer to go through emails and it seems to crash the email alot. It looks to me like its too preoccupied in loading annoying adverts instead of letting you check your mail. I know you can pay a fee to avoid the adverts, but there are no guarantees that it will be any better.
Can anybody recommend a decent alternative ?

G-mail or Hotmail although both are now "new and improved" as well.

Gmail is definitely the best, loads of storage and options, plus you can set alerts too :)

  • Another vote for Gmail here. It's completely customisable and works really quickly, it's the best by a country mile in my opinion! :)
  • I use AdBlock with Chrome (also available for FireFox), haven't seen an ad on Yahoo mail for months :D (I have a Sky email addy which annoyingly switched to Yahoo a while ago).

  • I have used mail.com (not GMail) (www dot mail dot com) for ages( early 90's). You have a wide range of addresses to choose from- It is free and at the moment I have over 20,000 emails stored from comping, so the storage limits are high.
Has filters and lots of other free functions, and you can upgrade- for a fee.
I have 4 emails (business, private, comping and twitter) and can switch between them and also have them all sent to one inbox.
Probably has downsides, but these I don't notice anymore.
Have a look, might be useful.

    I use gmx.com

you can set up several alias addresses and have them all arrive in your inbox.
It will also collect email from other providers.
Thanks to those that post the comps!!
