Another Quarkxpress 5.0 cover disk

I may have missed something, but this one doesn't seem to have been as well publicised as the Computer Shopper and PCPro offers earlier this year.
PC Advisor's May 2007 (issue 142) edition also included Quarkxpress 5.0 on its cover disk. This is not on the shelves anymore, but I contacted PC Advisor on Monday June 4th and was told that they had plenty of back issues in stock and I could have a CD issue for £6.00 or DVD for £7.00 including P&P. I understand that there is no registration timelimit on this one. However, I haven't received the disk yet so I can't be certain that there aren't any problems. You can phone PC advisor on 01795 414836 or e-mail PCAdvisor@servicehelpline.co.uk

Industry leading Design and Layout tool normally retailing for around £750. (most of the glossy magazines and newspapers use it)
It does have a big learning curve and is very powerful. It may be little to powerful for some home users.
Id suggest if anyone doesnt know what it is then you dont need it.

Thanks for the info Crown. I wonder if you can register the Computer Shopper edition through the PC Advisor avenue? I bought the Computer Shopper issue but didn't realise there was a time limit until it was too late!!! For the price of the magazine it's probably just as well to buy a new copy."Whatever happened to string?"0

Be warned that this is the older version 5 (version 7 is the current one) and does not sell for £750. It is a !!!!!! to get to grips with but as Crown says this is what the pro's use, or at least they did until they got InDesign!0 -
The magazine arrived and I can report that the disk did indeed contain Quark 5.0. There does not seem to be any timelimit on registration, the serial number was accepted, I was sent the validation code and am now up and running. I had to register with PC advisor to get the serial number in this case, it was not on the front of the disk.
Someone is selling a shedload of these on e-bay.
By the way, if someone sends me a file done on the Mac version of Quark will I be able to edit it using my PC version?0 -
I should specify that this is the DVD version of PC Advisor. I don't know if Quark's on the CD.0

Its a great product if you do any sort of DTP. I use it to make A4 trifold flyers, DVD covers and cd covers to mention just a few things. To be honest though....its not a particlularly steep learning curve....at least not to get good results for everyday things....perhaps a layout for a 150 page computer mag might be more difficult...if you're in a small business and if you can get hold of it go for it....our local printers love it when we supply files in Quark....makes it easier for them, especially when they spent the last hour trying to get someones "publisher" document to look more professional...lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
I got Quark 5 the last time it was out and I would agree with Torby.
it can be a bit of a pain to learn but it is much better and powerful than Publisher which I used before.
To be honest you'd have to pay me to go back to Publisher now.Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive0
