Which way is cheaper

First Direct is a really good possibility now. Do they do online mortgage management with real time balances etc? We're with Natwest and it's endlessly frustrating that we can't manage it online.
I don't think you can. I asked how I could make one off overpayments (on top of my regular monthly overpayments) and they said I can just call up and transfer money from my First Direct account - they didn't mention online, but I didn't specifically ask. You do need to setup a FD current account to get the mortgage, but you don't have to switch. If you do switch though, they give you £100.
The deal I got was 2.69% fix for 5 years. It did have an fee (payable upfront) of £499, but still the cheapest deal I could find over 5 years but all depends on your LTV and outstanding balance.0
