Written off debt.

Hi, All
I have a debt with Blackhorse and I have made monthly payment through DMP since August 2006. Recently, I aksed Blackhorse a statement of account to check progress and I found that a debt was written off on May 2007. Please kindly advise if I have to make monthly payment continuously and whether I am still liable for this debt.
Thanks in advance for advice.

yes, just means bad debt write off internal
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Who's the DMP with?

Who owns the debt according to your credit report?

    DMP with Payplan.
And, it is not in my credit report. I believe the Blackhorse still have it as I did not receive any assignment notice.

Have you talked to Payplan? I would think you would need to get their agreement to stop payments, although if you ask for a statement and then they say its written off, there is nothing to pay I guess.

Legally, they have to send you statements, otherwise, you might be paying for 50 years and you will never know when its paid off?

As mentioned above, my debt was written off on 10th May 2007, and I did not receive any statement or letter from them after that.
Do I have to just stop paying payment? or do I have to send a letter to them to notify that I will stop paying paymnet.
Another silly question. :D Can I request refund of the payments after 10th May 2007?

I think you should stop paying and see what happens. Hopefully Payplan should agree to this when they see your paperwork.

I don't think a claim against them would succeed.

It might be that the debt has been sold to a third party and so was subject to an internal write off. I know that you have not been informed of an assignment. If Payplan are aware that someone else is involved they will no doubt let you know.

Or maybe the third party will make contact after the payments stop.

Or maybe you'll never hear anything again about this.

But if it has been sold, then you ask for a statement from the owner and make sure the payments you have made have been taken into account. If not, you have grounds to get them back/put against the balance.

As fatbelly says, hopefully you will never hear about this again!
