I don't think a person who is off work with stress should stay incarcerated in the house ......... But I don't think it's appropriate for the person described in the original post to be plastering all her fun activities all over Facebook, when she's off work sick.

And nor is it for colleagues to be snooping on what they are posting. It is a sad state of affairs that you cannot tell your friends what you have been doing, for fear of someone snitching on you.

This is why it is advisable not to allow colleagues to access your profile - the OP is certainly not a friend.

But not every illness is visible.

Also, people still need to live whilst 'sick', she may have no choice but to buy groceries etc for kids.

Maybe the days out are to relieve her of the stress?

You can't judge how someone reacts to stress through facebook. She is a fool for posting all of these things but I'd keep your nose out until you have solid evidence.

    Exactly...

At my last job I just didn't "friend" my co-workers. It seemed like nothing but trouble could come from co-workers seeing what you post on your personal page.

Anyone who starts posting on Facebook when they are off sick is simply stupid and deserves to be sacked - I have no sympathy.

I don't understand why people on this forum are so obsessed with insulting people who feel others should play by the rules. 'Grass' or 'Snitch' are often used... well if no one cracked down on rule breaking there would effectively be no rules and society would collapse. In effect, if people don't 'grass' it's those who abide by the rules who suffer.

Personally I think you should print the posts off, find some way to anonymously pass them to your boss, then leave it to his/her judgement. If she is genuinely ill with stress, then she'll be fine. And it'll keep you safe from the people who hate 'grasses' (usually the ones with most to hide themselves.)

    ^^ This.

I've had two periods off work with 'stress' (one was work overload, the second was anxiety) and both times the doctors have advised me to go out, get into the fresh air, do something - anything - different from routine to try and help clear my head rather than brooding on the issue.

    Really? How so?

It's probably the most accurate post on the whole forum. Ever.

Stress can keep you off work when you are able to go out and do things - and as others have said sometimes its needed to do things to stop it getting worse.

She does seem to be taking the mick though. However, personally I'd leave it be. If you do try to show some of this stuff to the bosses then do make sure you remove all traces its you - and realise she may work it out anyway.

It may be all legit, stressed colleague may be in therapy due to stress, and have been given antidepressants, which can take 3 or 4 weeks to begin to work.

Lots of coincidences, but so what, not OP's business.

Think about it this way, stressed person may have spoken to the boss, and explained how things are, sorted sick note, agreed timescales to talk again, and to come and see the boss with a view to returning to work - very common practice to help employee and have sight of the problems.

OP wouldn't have sight of any dialogue and going to the boss may cause OP significant stress and embarrassment.

Bosses in the main are not stupid, they probably know the score, leave it be and look after your own business.
