Ex-partner mortgage advice please

I'm looking for some advice for a friend, if thats ok.
Basically her and her partner have split - they have a 10 year old daughter.
My friend is still living in the house, whilst her ex-partner is now living in rental accommodation.
Its been agreed, that my friend stays in the house, and she is looking to take over the mortgage and take her ex-partner's name off it. She has applied to do this, but her mortgage company have come back and said because her ex-partner missed a mortgage payment 2-3 years back, they won't take his name off.
Basically I want to know what she can do about this please?
Any helpful advice gratefully received

If the existing lender refuses to allow the mortgage to be changed to a single person then she may have to consider re-mortgaging to another lender in her name only. Naturally, formal consent by ex-partner will be required and the usual affordability and lending criteria will have to be met.
Hopefully, there is not a large redemption penalty lurking in the background.0
