HSBC advert winding me up!

I don't know if anyone has seen it, but the new HSBC mortgage advert really hits a nerve!

A couple get married and the parents give then a gift:a map. They follow the map to a house with an envelope on the door holding the keys to their new home. Bride is carried over the threshold. Lots of smiles. Great.

So what this advert says to me is that you can think again if your trying to buy your own house, only Mummy and Daddy can do it for you.

Well, I don't have rich parents that can help out, they don't even own their own home! Ever so slightly insulted by the advert but it's spurring me on to be in their position....with the added bonus that I can say I saved every penny myself. Every penny. So meh. :D:p

It's not as bad as the Nat West ad, making a virtue out of a mortgage they handed out 10 years ago.

I've got to say I think the NatWest advert is worse as I hate how lazy advertisers use kids to sell things

Although in my hormone addled state the HSBC advert makes me tearful, very embarrassing

Banks... bankers... Which circle of Dante's Hell shall we bung 'em in? Oh, what's wrong with making them work their way through the lot.... then make them start at the beginning again. Oh, and Michael Gove... he looks perfect for a role in the Lloyds ads... those pointy-nosed creatures give me the shivers... then he can be consigned into the Inferno too...

(can you tell, it was an early start to work today (5am), and I didn't have breakfast... grrr GRRR)

I don't understand this stigma that appears to be attached to parents helping out! Don't get me wrong, my mother hasn't been able to give us anything but we did have some help towards our deposit from OH's dad and I don't feel particularly ashamed about it. Should I do? I actually feel quite chuffed that we managed to save as much as we did on our own over 5 years in jobs that pay below the national average. OH's dad only stepped in with a bit extra to try and help us get a better rate of interest.

I know you say you feel a bit insulted by the advert nat21luv, but I always feel the same when I sense someone is trying to take a bit of our sense of achievement away from us just because we had a bit of help...

Not at all, its great that your parents were able to help out and I'll help mine children out when the time comes. Like you say, you saved yourself and didn't get it handed to you on a plate. Congrats on your new home :)
