are we being messed about?

My fiance and i put ourselves onto a local shared ownership scheme waiting list some time ago and are now in a house of our own. unfortunately the land registry for the house has had to be sorted because it hadn't been done before they'd let people move in and we are therefore only in our house as tenants rather than being 50% owners of the property.
we saw a mortgage advisor at halifax (we'd chosen halifax because i have had an account there since my parents opened one up for me when i was young and they have their mortgage with the halifax) who sorted us out a mortgage deal which would mean we would have to put £2910 towards it - total of £67,500.
not long after we saw our mortgage advisor we were contacted by her to say she had been transferred to the hereford branch.
i contacted her at the beginning of april because our original mortgage offer had expired whilst we had been waiting for the land registry to be sorted out and received a reply from her on the 7th april when she produced a further offer which needed to be taken up by the 31st october.
unfortunately our solicitors (based in bradford, offered to us through the halifax) have been chasing us for details on the mortgage, i have in turn been trying to get hold of our mortgage advisor since the middle of april and have only received a reply from her today!!
she has informed me today that the original mortgage offer has expired (which we already know) but so has the subsequent quote that she sent out to us, also the original valuation of the property.
she has told us that the new rate available, including the conveyancing service) is now at 6.29% and has an arrangement fee of £499. she has also now said that she will have to re-do everything all over again.
my colleagues at work have suggested to me that this £499 will have to be paid by us for the valuation, which also now has to be re-done, as well as the arranging of the mortgage offer itself. unfortunately however i'm not very clued up on all of this so am really unsure of what to do. i have emailed our solicitor (hammonds) on the advice of my colleagues to find out if we can change mortgage offers to another bank at all (i have been recommended nationwide by a lot of people) but am still awaiting a reply.

can anyone give me any advice in this situation at all please as i really do not know what to do now - the way everything has gone just makes me wonder why we bothered getting a house this way at all and actually makes me wish i was still at my parents house!!
