I never thought it would be so difficult in finding a job!

Hi

I've been searching for 5 months now after resigning from my last job after a few months.

My background is in Sales & Marketing and made a good career out of it. However I never thought that getting a good job in my field appears to be non existent.

I've been to several interviews and the only feedback I got was " you didn't shine" or " you are not a good fit" - I must be poor at interviews.

I'm really down at the moment. I have taken ownership in my job search and do not rely on recruiters to find me the job. I search day after day and all it is low paid call centre jobs.

I thought my skillset and experience would make me a top candidate in my field. Well, how naïve I was!

I have thought about looking at alternative career options but everything I think of requires prior experience.

Its a difficult climate out there and I feel for everyone who is in the same position as me.

I don't think it's easy to find a job in an industry at the moment and even qualifications and work experience aren't always helpful - in fact, it actually goes against some people.

However, at least you are getting interviews which is a good start. There may be something the interviews aren't telling you or it could simply be that someone else stood out more or was slightly better suited. Point is, it's an area you can look at and improve on.

Think about interview questions and the best way to answer them, think about your body language and so on. Perhaps look into a course or workshop for interviews as they may give some good tips.

You could also consider doing a course in Sales and Marketing (or something related to that) to show you are keeping all your skills up to date and willing to learn.

If there are jobs you know you could do it might be worth applying for them and just see if you get anywhere even if you don't have the experience. Again, perhaps doing a course in something would help.

Are you applying for the low paid jobs?

    Hello OP,

I just like to state you should be lucky at least you getting interviews.

I am on JSA and I apply for loads of Jobs a day on Universal Jobmatch and any other job sites like Indeed, fish4jobs and even monster.

However since Universal Jobmatch came into force last year I applied for 198 applications on the site and not had even 1 response. my cv is up to date since my adviser at the work programme checked it and she said my cv is perfect and we both can't understand why I am not getting any interviews at all.

Besides them applications I have also applied for loads of Jobs by email and guess what, still no feedback.

It's really tough at the moment, I moved in my flat since january 2012 and now I just need a perfect Job :D

The type of work I am looking for is Packer, retail, warehouse, shop assistant and maybe cleaner.

I will just have to keep applying and hope 1 day I get a interview at least :)

Its totally dried up though. Ive not had an interview since April.

In 2012 I had 12 interviews and was knocked back before I found something which unfortunately didn't work out :(

Its horrible isn't it, a few years ago I was on JSA and it took eight months to get a job, what annoyed me the most is that if an employer wasn't interested in you they didn't even have the decency to tell you, so you're waiting on a reply and you get absolutely nothing. If they were decent but lazy they could just put a note on the advertisement e.g. if you haven't heard from us by x date you have been unsuccessful.

OP change your tack in searching and maybe use transferable skills to find employment in another sector plus also use agencies to find you work too.

Not hearing from an application does get you down but as soon as I apply I forget about the application, I think it's for the best as they hopes aren't raised.

Its incredibly difficult in every industry at the moment, but at least you're getting interviews which is a good start, all you have to do now is work on your interview skills.

Maybe you could put up some of the questions that you find more difficult to answer and you'd get some help here.

My cousin has been looking for work for years and though he gets some interviews, he can't get a job.

This is something Im always looking at, some questions that my answers don't seem to connect with the interviewers:

    " Tell me about yourself.."
" How do you go about your day in sales?"
" Why did you resign from your last role?"
" Where do you see yourself in five years?"
" When you are behind your targets, how do you go about fixing it?"

Outwith my own efforts I have a few Recruiters I use. I don't use everyone who calls me.
