Hi all
I'm in dire need of either a strategy or a bomb behind me to decorate my living room! Rewired a couple of years ago and still have strips of new plaster in-between old wallpaper, and seriously fed up with living like this.
I have had a new laminate floor put down before christmas and shutters on the inside of the two windows. Stripped the walls on the one end [through lounge ] and have all the furniture lined up in the middle of the room.:o
It has been like the since the end of march and my enthusiasm has got up and went :eek:Have stripper, steps, bucket ,paste and lining paper all ready, including the emulsion to finish , except reached a full stop,
Only me to do it, retired and have a large dog to walk twice a day.I've always done my own painting and decorating, no money to employ anyone [not unusual!!]
Does anyone have a carrot or a stick please

If you don't do it, you'll be back in six months time saying it still hasn't been done....if you need soe inspiration, have a look at home decor on pinterest, but beware, you may spend all day looking at it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

sorry I am no help at all.
I have 2 bedrooms out of three, the hallway upstairs and downstairs a living room and half finished kitchen.
All with bare plaster walls and I have been like that for about 4/5 months.
And I can't get the mojo just to finish the living room. I had a week off in july and got put two coats of paint on coving LOL!!!!
I do have a man that can. So when the weather is a bit cooler I might get them in as it benefits them as I have a living room they can sit in!!!!

break open an can of paint tonight and paint - 'paint me' on the wall? For me it's just the starting so I always find it easiest to start in the evening and then I it's more reasonable to stop after a short while, and then I can keep going tomorrow cos it's started. so - caz - just do it! do it now!0

madnotstupid thanks hun, just to say have painted 'strip' me on all the bits that need stripping. In the morning i'll strip the walls.
Just the strategy i needed to begin.

the only strategy really is to get on with it. If you're feeling slightly depressed about it all, I find doing some work always makes me fel better because i can't think and work....so much for multi - tasking.....so get off your behind, stick the paintbrush in a tin, and start painting......Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Break it into manageable chunks, set realistic goals...like for instance, this week I will get this one wall done, next week the wall over there etc etc.
I often feel the same, but this works for me as it's the sheer scale of what needs done that gets to me, depresses me, and finally leaves me doing nothing.
Ideally I want it all done now (don't we all?) and I know it's unachievable, so I end up doing nothing precisely because I can't achieve it all at one sitting.
I can do one wall at a time though, and bizarrely if I look at it like that and don't pressure myself to have it all done NOW I get more done.
Currently doing the dreaded gloss paint this way, slowly but surely, a little at a time..feel good! (better than sitting looking at it feeling miserable!) xxM.A.C.A.W member number 39

You can buy a spray paint that looks and works like gloss
expenive, but worth not painting gloss....rustoleum....
