Skylander newbie?!? Help

Hi my 4 year old son has been going on about skylanders for ages, his birthday coming up so thought I would look into getting a game for wii of Xbox.
I've looked it up but just can't work out what's best to get started with, I believe there's ssa and sg??
Any advice would be great

Hi,
My son has both the Skylanders games and loves them (even though they end up costing you a fortune in character packs!).

As I understand it, the SSA as you call it (Skylanders Spyro Adventures) was the first game to come out. We bought that as a starter pack with the portal included. Then when we bought SG (Skylanders Giants) we only had to buy the booster pack (as we already had a portal).

If you are buying it for the first time you could buy either game but you need to make sure you get a starter pack with the portal included.

I'm told there is a third one coming out very soon. Swap Force I think it's called. Not sure it will be out in time for your son's birthday though.
