    That was harsh :(
Did the role involve handling money?

It's ironic that the major supermarkets, with large amounts of cash and goods, don't credit screen employees. And other than the odd incident, major theft by staff has hardly been reported.

So how come a transport and traffic entity like TFL does these sort of checks...

Its easy to spot someone stuffing £10 notes or DVD's down thier pants (camera), its much harder to spot somone with access, manipulating a computer system and taking £100k (until after they stop turning up at work!)

Ok, but I am still to see strong evidence of fraud linked to poor credit scores.
I bet that all of those bankers linked to the Libor scandal and others had top notch credit records...
I don't have a poor credit score, that's the point. They a company can fail anyone they like

Not at all that's why you have procedures in place and no ability to change bank account numbers to your own when doing a BACS run

Any company who has no procedures in place is open to all kinds of fraud.

You will be surprised that people who steal still go to work and continue to do it Worked with a boss who did that very thing and no one suspected her at all as she looked the less needy but she was financing her life style this way! I had kept telling the company to chance policy and they never listened till they were £400k light!!

Plus how can those with poor credits better their prospects and progress in their careers?
Are they stuck in lower paid jobs? And how can one aim to pay their debts if you are stuck in a low paid job forever?
If nothing is done, in a near future, even cleaning jobs will require a good credit score...

  • Very true, it really does depend on the company, maybe fare better if there is no HR department? Have they stated you will have a credit check?

Seen it both sides with a now discharged DRO - I can understand why credit checks are done but also feel they can be overcome, I do think a lot of it is self righteous... some of the worst security and total lack of compassion I've seen is well a lot to be desired by those deemed fit because they have never been bankrupt and the like! ironic

Thats all they should really look for (CCJ's, bankruptcy) and if you think your worse then you are, on forms you should declare it so you can be hung both ways, again totally depending on who it is your looking to work for... make sure your on electrorial roll to, helps if got a landline number, can show utility bills, never talk to colleagues about being in any kind of debt as one debt charity once put it how would they know unless you tell/confirm to them

I've self declared before and ended up out of a job...
I've had another job offer in insurance retracted... wouldn't like to say where I work now I can hardly believe it (the bank manager didn't see that one coming! ah keeps me going! lol)

Never lose hope, weirder things have happened!
Definately no rhyme or reason to what is acceptable to one company but not another?
    ;)
