I do like fresh pineapple but i dont like buying puny rubbish pineapples as is often found in supermarkets so i keep my eye out for good ones at the right price.
Now then, Tesco used to have "small" pineapples and "large pineapples". The small ones were totally rubbish and way too small and under ripe. The big ones were acceptable if you got a good one. This evening i see they have changed the labelling.
The puny rubbish ones previously known as "small" have now become "large" and the previous "large" ones have now become "giant " all with corresponding rip off prices !
What a joke. The so called giant ones are rubbish and nothing like a real pineapple you might buy in a European street market.
Robbing g&ts selling rubbish overpriced product.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Lidl does nice ones but I notice their large size has shrunk considerably over the past few months.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Pineapples take 16month to grow, they are graded manually and generally the larger sizes are shipped to USA and Spain/Italy where they pay a premium for the fruit. Tesco like other retailers have to change from a count 10 per box to a count 8 per box depending on time of year.
There is no rip off, if there is not enough of a certain size then the size has to change, supply and demand allows Lidl to sell what ever is the best deal at the time, when arge fruit in abundance you will get a weekend deal.
Simple as.
There is only so much growing land in the world, the worlds population is increasing, fuels and labour prices ( mexico was $7 a day 10 years ago and now $16 a day. For example) are increasing, there are becoming more people who are becoming wealthier in Asia / Africa. For years Europe has had cheap food those days have now gone on a regular basis sadly."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Maybe we need REAL fruit? When i was in Greece the other week i visited the local fruit and veg street market and got two carrier bags of fruit for 6 Euros and it was all far bigger and far better quality then the carp served in our supermarkets.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). They probably grew the fruit in the next field to the market!
You won't find many pineapples growing here.0
